Happy Monday, I wish everyone a great day!
This week I am sharing the Pied-billed Grebe. I see them often lately, they were in Florida, Maryland and seen on my last visit to Pennsylvania. The Grebes are cute waterbirds. Often while trying to get a shot of them they will dive just as I want to take their photo.
The Pied-blled Grebe is also known as a Dabchick. Isn't Dabchick a cute name!
Small, stocky and short necked birds. They breed throughout the United States. they have a chicken like bill. In the summer their bill is enhanced with a small black band.
They feed on small fish and frogs. They dive for about 30 seconds, especially if they feel they are in danger besides looking for food.
I was surprised to see this large group of Pied-billed Grebe at the Lake Apopka wildlife drive in Florida.
As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.
My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

Hi Eileen. Well what a coincidence. Our Little Grebe is also known as a dabchick and has the same annoying habit, diving just as my finger hits the shutter button. Have a great week now.
ReplyDeleteAnother new bird...with a smart bill.
ReplyDeleteA good week to you, Eileen!
I had never heard the name dabchick before. It is very cute and the bird is lovely!
ReplyDeleteNice to see all your beautiful photos.

That Grebe is a cutie for sure... I see them around in various places where we go... I love the name, Dabchick..... CUTE!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
I don't think I've ever seen a grebe, with it's short pied bill. They look so unusual with such a short beak,
ReplyDeleteCute Grebe..great photos..I never heard the name "dabchick"..Have a wonderful week..
ReplyDeleteWe are both in a grebe sort of mood today! Your pictures are better of course. I saw all of mine in Oregon and have never seen a pie-bill in Florida...the ones in Oregon dive just like yours do ... When we lived out at the lake, I probably had a million pictures of 'where the grebe used to be'... lots of ruffly water shots .
ReplyDeleteAwwww, aren't they sweet? LOVE!! that first image.
ReplyDeleteAnother new to me bird and that name IS cute / reminds me of a cartoon character or something :)
ReplyDeleteEileen - they are so adorable. I especially like how they seem to still have 'baby' down ... I enjoy your pictures so much since I am pretty hopeless at bird pictures!!! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful duck that first one is....nice.

ReplyDeleteI love wildlife photos like that. Lovely - especially that last shot.
ReplyDeleteIf i am with you there, i will be very happy also taking shots of those wildflowers! I am not so much happy shooting only ducks or birds in the water. I prefer those on trees.
ReplyDeleteThat first picture is gorgeous! I enjoyed this post and the info very much. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that the bird's bill changes with the seasons. I'm not at all familiar with this bird. Thanks for the photos and info! Hope you have a lovely Tuesday, Eileen!
